“After all," Anne had said to Marilla once, "I believe the nicest and sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens but just those that bring simple little pleasures, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string.”
― L.M. Montgomery
That essentially sums up how I feel about California and all of the years and moments I've spent there. It wasn't a wild ride with intense, exhilarating moments, but slowly and steadily learning to appreciate really small, beautiful things that happen in extremely ordinary circumstances. It wasn't California itself, but the friends and family that I made that created this magical revelation that happiness is a choice and not a destination.
While I was there in July, I wanted to make a point to get photographs that capture the people who've come to mean so much to me; that being said, here are some of the people who mean the most to me, in the magical world around them they've created. I'm really pathetic and choke up just posting these, don't judge me. You try having your heart spread out across thousands of miles, and THEN judge me.
“The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.”
― Maya Angelou
“Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.”
― Candace Bushnell
I'd like to wrap this all up with a couple photos of my favorite bakery, Enjoy Bakery. This one is in Santa Barbara, but if you ever make it out to their shop in Santa Ynez, please do, and bring me back a cupcake flight.
