Yesterday I went on a last minute, one night camping trip to Ithaca again - this time staying at the Robert H. Treman State Park. Our camp site was a lot less expensive than Watkins Glen, but really clean and well taken care of. Until an insane storm hit, anyway, which rooted up and knocked over at least six giant trees, one of which fell on a tent and took down power lines all over the campground.
As usual, camping mostly means eating, so I was pretty excited to wake up this morning and cook over an open fire. I bought this campfire popcorn pan, but it's now also become a chili, asparagus, and egg scramble pan.
This is usually a swimming hole, but unfortunately they shut it down for the day since the weather had caused so much trouble and they had to put nature in a quick time out.
As usual, we wrapped up the trip with food and beer. This time we headed to the Tap Room at Ithaca Beer Co. It's the second time I've been there, and I love it. The service is great, the beer is good, and most importantly they have shuffle board, which is my favorite game. Second most importantly, they have a french fry flight, which comes with different dipping sauces and it's delicious. They also had two options of beer flights; we went with the Full Spectrum Flight.
Ideally I think the fry flight should go along with the beer flight and be specifically paired with each beer, but also it's beer and french fries, so maybe it's best not to get too crazy.
My waitress, Jaren, was really cool. I honestly didn't find out almost anything about her, I don't even know if I'm spelling her name right, but I do know we own the same sweatshirt, so there's that. We hiked almost 5 fairly strenuous miles earlier that day, and I thought I was dying, so I forgot to become her best friend. But! I appreciated her demeanor. The last time I'd been there I was really impressed by the other staff as well; everyone is friendly, attentive and happy to chat if you want to.
Also, no one seems to be phased by a stranger wanting to take their picture, which is pretty awesome. Believe it or not, I'm not photogenic at all so I'd probably be really uncomfortable, but I'm glad no one else seems to be.
Stay gorges, Ithaca. I'll be back again soon.
